# Join the ad network

At the end, bookings from the Szenera ad network reach the displays you enable for it, and you have decided how your revenue is settled, whether advertisers see your name, and which industries never run on your displays.

> **Type:** guide
> **For:** Owners who want to have ad slots marketed through the network instead of approaching every manufacturer themselves.
> **Prerequisite:** **Owner** role: By default, the permission **Control ad network participation** rests with this role alone. Participation is open to every package. For network bookings to run, you need ad breaks with slots for the network: [Add an ad break to a playlist](/docs/advertising/add-ad-break-to-playlist).
> **Where in the portal:** **Advertising** › **Network participation** tab

Szenera sells ad slots across many locations to manufacturers and brands. You decide what of it runs on your displays: Without your consent, no network booking reaches your displays, and even afterward only the displays you enable and only the slots that your ad breaks leave to the network.

## Steps

1. Open **Advertising** and switch to the **Network participation** tab. It says **not switched on** with the sentence “Without your consent no network booking reaches your displays. Participation is open to every package.”
2. Click **Join the network**. The **Join the ad network** dialog opens.
3. Answer the question **How should your revenue be settled?**
   - **By self billing credit note**: Szenera issues you a credit note every month and offsets it against your invoice.
   - **Statement only**: You see your revenue, but there is no payout without a credit note.
4. Decide on **Show name in reports**. Without this consent, advertisers see only the place and the venue type, never the name of your location.
5. Under **Excluded industries**, choose what should never run on your displays, for example **Medicines** next to your own brand or **Automotive**.
6. Select the checkbox “I agree to the terms of participation in version ….” and click **Join the network**. The message reads **You are now part of the ad network.**
7. Enable the displays that the network may reach: **Go to ad inventory** leads to the **Ad inventory** tab, where you select **Enable for network bookings** for each display, see [Set up ad space and audience](/docs/advertising/set-ad-space-and-audience).

## Options

### What you can change later

After you switch participation on, the tab shows **You participate**, the day of your consent with the version of the terms, and how many displays are enabled for the network. Below that, you can change **Settlement by credit note**, **Show name in reports**, and the **Excluded industries** at any time and click **Save**.

*1 You participate · 2 Settlement by credit note · 3 Excluded industries · 4 Revenue and credit notes*

**Leave the network** takes your displays out of the network: Network bookings no longer reach them afterward. Your consent remains on record, and what was measured and documented up to then remains valid. You continue to be credited with the revenue of the months in which you participated, as long as your consent to settlement by credit note stands.

### What participation promises

- **Every play is measured and documented**, whatever your package. The proof of a network booking belongs to the network and its advertiser. Your share of it appears in Analytics under **Ad campaigns**: [Analyze ad campaigns](/docs/analytics/analyze-ad-campaigns).
- **The network takes only network slots.** The slots of your direct business stay with you, and the two never compete for the same slot.
- **Your location stays behind the place.** Without **Show name in reports**, the reports and proofs of the network name the place and the venue type. Where fewer than three locations would appear in a row, the reports combine them, so that nobody can read the customer count of a single store from a report.

### Revenue and credit notes

Under **Revenue and credit notes**, you see per month what the ad campaigns of the network earned on your displays and what is credited to you. On the tenth day of each month, Szenera distributes the revenue of the previous month to the locations. Plays that a display reports late after an interruption arrive by then as well:

| Price of the ad campaign | Your share of the revenue depends on |
|---|---|
| Flat price | the valid airtime on your displays |
| Price per thousand contacts | the contacts of grades A and B at your locations |
| Price per thousand plays | the valid plays on your displays |

With a flat price, Szenera distributes the share of the month, never more. If a credit note has already been issued for a location, it keeps its share, and whatever is reported late afterward shares the remainder.

Your revenue becomes the credit note: Up to the amount of your monthly invoice, it is credited in full, and anything beyond that is split, currently with 40 percent going to you. Both values are settings of the network, with a version and a date. With this, we state how the calculation works, not how much a month brings: That depends on how fully the slots are booked.

| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| **calculated** | The statement for the month is available, and we have not reviewed it yet. It can still change until the review. |
| **reviewed** | We have approved the statement, and the credit note is being issued. |
| **issued** | The credit note exists as a document with its own number: **Credit note … for …** and **View credit note**. |
| **settled** | The credit note has been offset against your invoice for the month or paid out. |
| **without consent** | At the end of the month, you had not agreed to settlement by credit note, or you have since withdrawn your consent. The revenue appears in the statement, but no credit note is created. |

The credit note is a settlement of your service to Szenera: Szenera issues it on your behalf, with the word **Credit note**, your tax number or VAT ID, and 19 percent VAT, or, if you are a small business, without VAT and with a note to that effect. For this, your invoice profile needs your VAT details and a tax number or VAT ID: [Invoice profile, VAT ID, and tax](/docs/billing/invoice-profile). Credit notes are available for locations in Germany, and so far they come as a PDF, not as an e-invoice.

## Check the result

- The tab shows **You participate** and “Agreed on …, terms in version ….”
- The line “… of … displays are enabled for the network.” counts at least one display.
- In the **Ad inventory** tab, the enabled displays carry **in the network**.

## If something goes wrong

| Symptom | Meaning | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| “Only the owner of your organization can join or leave.” | Your account does not hold the permission **Control ad network participation**. | Ask an Owner. |
| “Decide whether to settle by credit note.” | The question about settlement is still open. | Choose **By self billing credit note** or **Statement only**. |
| No network bookings arrive. | No display is enabled for the network, no ad break gives the network slots, the industry is excluded, or the bookings of the network target other regions and types of venues. | Check the ad inventory, the ad breaks, and the location: Venue type and region are maintained at the [location](/docs/displays/create-locations). |
| “Your billing profile is missing for the credit note.”, “Your VAT details are missing …”, or “Your VAT ID or tax number is missing …” | Without this information, no credit note can be issued. | Complete the [invoice profile](/docs/billing/invoice-profile). |
| “There is no credit this month.” | After your invoice, the revenue of the month leaves no credit note. | Nothing to do. |
| “… had already been credited in full for this month when your plays arrived.” | The flat price of this ad campaign had already been fully credited to locations for the month when your plays were reported late. Szenera does not distribute more than the flat price. | Nothing to do. Displays that stay connected report their plays on time. |
