# Check a display’s day

At the end, you see for one display and one day, on one timeline, what was planned, whether the TV was on, when recording took place, and what was actually visible, plus every play of an hour and the screenshots of that time.

> **Type:** guide
> **For:** Everyone who is following up on a suspicion, for example: The display in a medical practice’s waiting room did not show yesterday what was planned.
> **Prerequisite:** The permission **Run ad hoc queries**, held by **Owner** and **Manager** by default. A package with history: Without a history commitment, the day of a display shows **History from the Pro package** instead of the analysis.
> **Where in the portal:** **Analytics** › **Displays** tab

## Steps

1. Open **Analytics** and switch to the **Displays** tab. With no display chosen, every planned hour of all displays appears there as a grid.
2. In the grid, click the row of the display or **Open day**. The day of the display opens: today’s, if today falls in the period, otherwise the last day of the period.
3. Choose the day. **Previous day** and **Next day** page through, and the strip of recent days next to them shows for each day the share of the planned time that was visible. To choose a different display, use the button with the display’s name to the left of them. With no display chosen, it is called **Choose display**.
4. Read the card **Planned versus measured**. Above the axis are the numbers of the day, below them the tracks, from top to bottom:

   | Track | What it shows |
   |---|---|
   | **Events** | Overrides, program changes, restarts, updates, offline periods, panel off, and clusters of playback errors. |
   | **Planned time** | Opening hours and program, that is, when the display should have shown content. |
   | **Program** | What should have run according to the schedule, with off-air periods and overrides. |
   | **Panel** | Whether the TV was on or on standby, according to CEC, DDC/CI, or the TV itself. Without a source, it says **no feedback**. |
   | **Capture** | When the display software was recording. A gap in it is a time without a report. |
   | **Shown** | What was visible according to the measurement: own content, filler, network bookings, direct business, invalid plays, and errors. |
   | **Plays** | The number per hour. A click chooses the hour. |
   | **Screenshots** | The screenshots of the day as a filmstrip, every five minutes and at every change. |

5. Choose an hour. The card of the hour states “… plays, … of them invalid, … screenshots” and lists every play with **Start**, **Content**, **Type**, **Duration**, and **Status**. **Previous hour** and **Next hour** page through. Without a choice of your own, the day opens the hour with the most invalid plays, because that is usually where something went wrong.
6. Choose a screenshot in the filmstrip. Next to it are two images: **Recorded**, what the display showed, and **Expected by program**, what was planned at that time. Below them is **What ran according to the measurement** with the play that belongs to the screenshot.

## Options

### The numbers of the day

| Number | What it counts |
|---|---|
| **Planned time** | Hours in which the display should have shown content according to opening hours and program. |
| **Visible** | The time the display was visibly running, plus its share of the planned time. While gaps are still open, a range is shown. |
| **Plays** | All plays of the day. |
| **Valid ads** | Valid plays of ad campaigns, “of … planned” against the target. |
| **Invalid** | Plays that the validity rule rejected. |
| **Captures** | The screenshots of the day, identical images in a row combined. |

### What a single play says

Under **What ran according to the measurement** are the circumstances of the play that belongs to the chosen screenshot:

| Detail | Examples |
|---|---|
| **Content** | Name, and for a playlist “from the playlist …”. |
| **Play** | Start and end, in an ad break with the slot. |
| **Rendering** | “rendered, the first frame was visible”, “video ran to its end”, “video stalled and showed a still frame”, or “playback error, the area stayed empty”. If the device reports what it failed on, the reason appears as a sentence, for example “video file could not be read, the area stayed empty” or “without confirmation that the content appeared”. If the portal does not know a report yet, the general sentence appears with the device’s report in small type behind it, for example “device report …”. |
| **Panel** | “on, confirmed by the TV”, “on, without feedback from the TV”, or how long on standby. |
| **Visible** | “yes” with the share of the display area, or how long not in the foreground. |
| **File** | The checksum of the file shown. |
| **Clock** | The offset from the server’s clock and where the time came from. |

### View screenshots large

**View large** opens **Screenshots of …**: the screenshot at full-screen size, with **Previous screenshot**, **Next screenshot**, and **Play**, which shows the screenshots of the day one after another. The filter chooses **All**, **Samples**, **Errors**, or **Changes**. A screenshot carries its occasion: at an interval, on a change of content, as a sample for the proof, or on request. **Download image** saves it.

The screenshot shows the output of the display software, not the panel: Videos on a layer of their own on the device are missing from it, and a TV on standby looks on the screenshot like one that is showing content. Whether it was on is stated by the **Panel** track.

### Capture now and log

**Capture now** requests a new image, which appears in the filmstrip after a few seconds. For that, your account needs the permission to send commands to displays. **Log as CSV** downloads all plays of the day as a table, one row per play, with verdict, rendering, panel, visibility, time source, checksum of the file, and the marking **reported late**.

## Check the result

Where **Shown** differs from **Program**, one of the tracks above explains why: The panel was off, the capture had a gap, or an event such as a restart or an override falls into that time. The screenshot for that spot shows what was shown in the area.

## If something goes wrong

| Symptom | Meaning | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| **History from the Pro package** | Your package includes no history. | **Compare packages**. |
| **Nothing to measure on this day** | No planned time was scheduled for this day, and the display reported nothing. | Check the program and opening hours. |
| “… planned hours of this day have not been reported yet and may arrive until ….” | The device has not reported anything for these hours yet and still can. | Check the status of the display: [Read status, visibility, and incidents](/docs/displays/read-status). |
| “Some plays of this day have arrived and are not checked yet.” | The validity rule has not judged them yet. | Look again after a few minutes. |
| **No screenshot on this day** | No screenshot exists for the day, or it is older than the retention of your package. | Your package keeps screenshots for 1, 7, 30, or 90 days. |
| **Panel** permanently says **no feedback**. | The TV answers neither over HDMI-CEC nor over DDC/CI. | [Display control over HDMI](/docs/devices/about-hdmi-control). The plays still count and appear as without panel confirmation. |
| The screenshot is black although a video ran. | The device plays videos on a layer of its own, which is missing from the screenshot. | Not a finding. The measurement of the play says whether the video ran. |
