# Uninstall an app

After this guide, the app is removed from your organization, its widgets are cleared from all scenes, and you know beforehand which scenes this affects and what happens to the app’s data. If you wish, you then have the data the app leaves behind deleted for good.

> **Type:** guide
> **For:** Owners. Managers and members see the button but cannot trigger it.
> **Prerequisite:** An installed app and, for a booked app, a look at the remaining term.
> **Where in the portal:** **Apps** › **My apps** › **Open** › **Settings** tab › **Remove app**

## Steps

1. On the app’s page, open the **Settings** tab and go to the end, to the **Remove app** section. It says “The app will be uninstalled for this organization.” and, in addition, what happens to its data, for example “Locations and duty rosters are kept. You can have them deleted for good afterwards.” Click **Uninstall app**. The dialog carries the name of the app in its title and loads a preview of the consequences when it opens.
2. Check the preview. It shows:
   - the affected scenes by name: “The widgets of this app will no longer show on 3 scenes:”. If no scene uses the app, it says “No scene currently uses widgets from this app.”
   - the same sentence about the app’s data as in the **Remove app** section. If the app creates no data of its own, it reads “This app leaves no data of its own behind.”
   - for an Essentials app, the warning **This app is part of the core setup**: “Without it your displays lose fundamental building blocks. Uninstall only if you are sure.”
   - for a booked app, the remaining term: “The booking runs until October 31, 2026 and then ends. There is no prorated refund.”
3. Click **Uninstall**. The button becomes active only once the preview has loaded.

## Options

### Delete the data of an uninstalled app

The data of an uninstalled app stays in place so that a new installation picks up where it left off. If you no longer need it, schedule it for deletion. After 30 days, we delete it for good. Apps with data areas of their own show the block for this, today **Pharmacies on duty**, **Menu board**, and **Calendar**.

1. Open the app’s listing in the store. After uninstalling, the portal takes you there by itself, and later you reach it through **Apps** › **Discover apps**.
2. Below the action card is the block **Your data for this app**, for example “Pharmacies on duty is uninstalled. These entries are still held by your organization:” with each data area and its number of entries. Below that it says “Installing it again brings them back.”
3. Click **Delete app data for good**. The dialog **Delete the data of Pharmacies on duty for good** says “Deletion happens after 30 days. Until then you can cancel it.” Under **This deletes:** are the data areas with their entries, and below them “Installing the app again before then cancels the deletion.”
4. Click **Schedule deletion**. The message **Deletion scheduled** appears, and the block says “The data will be deleted for good on …. Until then you can cancel the deletion.”

Until the stated day, **Cancel deletion** brings the data back, and the message then reads **Deletion canceled**. If you install the app again before that day, the deletion cancels itself, and the app finds its data. After the deletion, the block disappears. A new installation then starts without the old data. The [Change log](/docs/organization/read-change-log) records every step: **App data deletion scheduled**, **App data deletion canceled**, and **App data deleted for good**.

## Check the result

- The message **App uninstalled** appears, and the portal takes you to the app’s listing in the store. The app is no longer in **My apps**.
- We clear the app’s widgets from the affected scenes in the background.
- In the scene editor, the app’s widgets are missing from the palette. The category disappears if no other installed app fills it.

> **Caution:** Where a widget was removed, a gap remains in the scene. Open the scenes named in the preview in the scene editor, fill the area, and publish again, see [Save and publish](/docs/content/save-and-publish).

## What stays and what goes

| Affects | After uninstalling |
|---|---|
| The app’s data in its data areas, such as locations or duty rosters | Kept and available again after a new installation. They are deleted for good only once you schedule the deletion and 30 days have passed. Only if the sentence about the data reads “Uninstalling deletes ….” are they lost with the uninstall. |
| Widgets in scenes | Removed. The scenes remain. |
| What **Video wall** and **OneDrive** unlock | The **Video walls** page and the **Places** in the media library do not disappear. Existing video walls and media you have already imported remain, but nothing new can be created. |
| Booking of an add-on app | Continues until the end of the period and then ends, without a prorated refund. |

## If something goes wrong

| Symptom | Meaning | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| **Uninstall app** is grayed out | You are not an owner. | Ask an owner. |
| “The impact could not be determined.” | The preview could not be loaded, and **Uninstall** stays locked. | Close the dialog, reload the page, and open it again. |
| “Uninstall failed” | The uninstall did not reach us. | Try again. If it persists, see [When an app does not run](/docs/apps/troubleshooting). |
| A scene shows an empty area after the uninstall | A widget of the app was there. | Adjust the scene in the editor and publish it. |
| The block **Your data for this app** is missing from the listing | The app has no data areas of its own, its data areas are empty, or you are not an owner. | Nothing to do. Without entries, there is nothing to delete. |
| “This could not be saved. Please try again.” | Scheduling or canceling did not arrive. | Reload the page and try again. |
