# Set up Samsung TVs and Samsung panels (Tizen)

A retail Samsung TV shows your display software with the Szenera Display app or in its browser. A professional Samsung panel opens it by itself at power-on. This page explains which of the three ways fits your device, how to set it up, and what does not work by itself afterward.

> **Type:** guide
> **For:** anyone connecting a Samsung TV or a Samsung panel as a display
> **Prerequisite:** a TV with Tizen 5.5 or newer (roughly from model year 2020) or a panel with Tizen 6.5 or newer (roughly from 2022) on the network, a free booked seat for a web display, and a computer with portal access
> **Where in the portal:** **Displays** › **Pair display**

## Three ways onto a Samsung display

| Way | For which device | What it brings |
|---|---|---|
| **The Szenera Display app** from Samsung Apps | Retail TVs | Full screen without bars, no screensaver over the program, a waiting page when the network is missing, and the portal recognizes the display as a Tizen app. After power-on, it comes back only with a setting on the TV |
| **The browser** of the TV or the **URL Launcher** of a panel, as a web display | every TV and every panel with a suitable browser engine | works without an app. On a TV with the address bar and menus of the browser, on a panel it opens the display software by itself at power-on |
| **The Szenera Display app for Samsung panels**, through the URL Launcher | professional panels with Smart Signage | the app starts by itself at every power-on, even after a power outage. Screenshot, restart, and schedule from the portal are added later. New and not yet verified on any panel, see [On the Samsung panel with the app](#on-the-samsung-panel-with-the-app) |

> **Caution:** The Szenera Display app is built but is not yet in Samsung Apps. Until it appears there, use the browser route on a retail TV. Ask Szenera support about the status.

You can tell whether a device is a retail TV or a panel in the settings: A panel has the **URL Launcher** (in some versions under “URL Launcher Settings”). A retail TV does not have it.

## With the Szenera Display app

1. On the TV, open **Apps** and search for **Szenera Display**.
2. Choose **Install**.
3. Open the app. It loads the display software and, after a few seconds, shows a **six-digit pairing code**.
4. Sign in to the portal on a computer and choose **Displays** › **Pair display**.
5. Type in the code. The TV then shows your program.

For the app to reappear by itself after power-on or a power outage, the TV needs two settings:

1. Turn on **Autorun Last App**. On a TV set to German, the function is also called “Letzte App automatisch ausführen” depending on the model. On TVs up to 2021, it is under **General** › **Smart Features**, on newer ones under the **start screen options**.
2. Turn off **Auto Power Off** (in the power or Eco settings). Otherwise, the TV turns off after a few hours without operation, even while the app is running.

If the TV still starts into the home screen afterward, some models additionally need **Autorun Smart Hub**. Older models restore only the last source with this setting, not the last app.

The app chooses the matching version of the display software by itself. The display software in the app updates itself from the cloud, and the app itself through Samsung Apps.

### What the app can and cannot do

A retail TV gives an app from Samsung Apps little to work with. The app tells the portal exactly that, and what does not work is missing there as a button.

| What | With the app | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Full screen without bars | yes | every app on Tizen runs that way |
| Keeping the screensaver away | yes | the app switches it off while it is in front and releases it as soon as you switch to another app |
| Waiting page without network, new attempt by itself | yes | the app keeps its page even if the display software does not load |
| Start after power-on or a power outage | **only with Autorun Last App** | Samsung does not let any app from the store start by itself. The setting on the TV reopens the last used app, see above |
| Screenshot, restart, switching on and off from the portal | **no** | Samsung gives that only to professional panels, and there only to its partners, see [What is added later](#what-is-added-later) |
| Remote maintenance: system log, updates of the TV, service menu | **no** | remote maintenance exists only on a player. Samsung updates the TV’s system |

The remote control in the app:

| Key | Effect |
|---|---|
| **Back** | once: the question “Close Szenera Display?” with **Keep showing**, **Settings**, and **Close**. Twice: close the app |
| **Menu** or **Tools** | the settings of the app, where your remote control has the key |
| **Arrows** and **OK** | move through the buttons of the question and the settings and select |

The question closes after ten seconds without a key press, the settings after one minute. An accidental press therefore leaves nothing over the program. Whoever presses **Back** twice quits the app, and the TV shows its home screen until someone opens Szenera Display again.

The settings show the version of the app, the Tizen version, and the display address. Under **Display version**, choose **Automatic**, **Current devices**, or **Older devices**. If the page stays blank even though the TV has a network, choose **Older devices**. **Reload display** loads the display software fresh.

## In the TV’s browser or on the panel

Without the app, the display is a web display: The browser opens the display address and keeps it.

### On the TV

1. On the TV, open the **Internet** browser and type in the **display address** that the portal lists under **Displays** › **Pair display**.
2. The TV shows a six-digit code. Type it into the portal.
3. Bookmark the address. After a power outage, you bring the display software back with it.

In the browser, a Samsung TV does not start into the display software by itself after power-on, but into its home screen or Samsung TV Plus, see [Platforms: When the TV does not start by itself](/docs/devices/platforms#when-the-tv-does-not-start-by-itself). Which settings go with it is explained under [Platforms: The four settings on the device](/docs/devices/platforms#the-four-settings-on-the-device).

### On the panel with URL Launcher

1. In the settings of the panel, look for **URL Launcher**. Label and location vary between Tizen versions, but it is always the same function.
2. Enter the display address from the portal, with `https://` and no trailing space. A panel without a keyboard takes it through the remote control character by character, so check it twice: A wrong address results in a blank page and no error message.
3. Set the **power-on source** to the URL Launcher, otherwise the panel starts in its last source after a power outage.
4. Turn off **screensaver**, **pixel shift**, and **automatic shutdown**, as far as the panel allows.
5. Set the **on/off schedule** in the panel. The display software in the browser cannot switch the panel off.
6. Pair the display as above with the code it shows.

### Which address applies

In the browser and on the panel, the browser engine of the Tizen version decides:

| Tizen version | Address |
|---|---|
| Tizen 6.5 and newer (TVs and panels from about 2022) | the **display address** from the portal (`webplayer.…`) |
| Tizen 5.5 and 6.0 (2020 and 2021) | the **TV address**: the display address with `tv.` instead of `webplayer.` at the beginning |
| Tizen 5.0 and older (2019 and earlier) | this device cannot run the display software |

A device with Tizen 5.5 or 6.0 often shows no refusal on the display address, but a white or blank page. Then open the TV address.

> **Caution:** This table is derived from Samsung’s information about the browser engine and has not yet been checked model by model on the device. The test takes a minute: Open the address, and either the display software starts or the device shows a refusal or a blank page. If the page stays blank on the display address on a device with Tizen 6.5, use the TV address.

## On the Samsung panel with the app

A professional Samsung panel with Smart Signage does not install the Szenera Display app from a store but from an address that you enter once at the panel. After that, the panel starts the app by itself at every power-on, without a remote control.

> **Caution:** The app for Samsung panels is new and has not yet been verified on any panel. A Samsung panel installs an app only with a signature from Samsung, and for customers’ panels that exists only with a partnership that Szenera does not have yet. Ask Szenera support before you set up a panel this way. Until then, the [URL Launcher](#on-the-panel-with-url-launcher) shows your display software without the app.

The app needs **Tizen 6.5 or newer** (panels from about model year 2022). The version is in the panel’s data sheet. Older panels cannot run the display software.

### Through the URL Launcher

The menus have slightly different names depending on the Tizen version. Up to Tizen 6.5, the mode is called **URL Launcher**, from Tizen 7.0 **Custom App**, but it is the same.

1. With the panel’s remote control, open the menu and set **Play via** under **System** to **URL Launcher** or **Custom App**. From Tizen 7.0, this works only while **HDMI** is the selected source.
2. Open the settings of the URL Launcher and choose **Install Web App**, from Tizen 7.0 **Install Custom App**.
3. Enter the address of the app: your TV address with `/host/tizen` at the end, so `https://tv.…/host/tizen`. What the TV address is appears under [Which address applies](#which-address-applies). Type it with the remote control character by character and check it twice.
4. The panel loads the app, installs it, and starts it. After a few seconds, it shows a **six-digit pairing code**. Type it in on the computer in the portal under **Displays** › **Pair display**.
5. Set the **power-on source** to the URL Launcher or the Custom App, so that the panel starts the app after every power-on, even after a power outage.

For continuous operation, the same applies as for the URL Launcher without the app: **screensaver**, **pixel shift**, and **automatic shutdown** off as far as the panel allows, and set the **on/off schedule** in the panel. The app cannot switch the panel yet.

### What the app can and cannot do on the panel

| What | On the panel | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Start after power-on or a power outage | yes | the panel starts the app through its mode when it is the power-on source |
| Stays awake | yes | a panel is built for continuous operation, and the app switches the screensaver off |
| Full screen without bars, waiting page without network | yes | as on the TV |
| **Back** quits the app | no | on the panel, there is nothing for the app to return to. **Back** opens the settings of the app, and a second **Back** closes them |
| Screenshot, restart, switching on and off from the portal | **not yet** | Samsung releases that only to its partners, see [What is added later](#what-is-added-later) |
| Remote maintenance: system log, updates of the panel, service menu | **no** | remote maintenance exists only on a player. Samsung updates the panel’s system, and it can be managed with Samsung’s tools, such as MagicINFO |

Your display software updates itself from the cloud. The panel fetches a new version of the app from the same address at its next restart, with no manual step. New versions of the app are rare.

### What is added later

Samsung releases the panels’ interfaces and the signature for customers’ panels only to its partners. With them, the app on the panel gets:

- **Installation on every panel** with Tizen 6.5 or newer, without asking support.
- **Screenshot**, **restart**, and **on and off** from the portal.

There is no date for this yet. A panel does not get remote maintenance with system log and service menu even then, because that exists only on a player.

## Check the result

- The display shows your program in full screen, with the app without bars.
- In the portal, the display appears under **Displays**. In the device record, it says **Tizen app** with its version for the app on the TV, **Tizen app on a Samsung panel** with its version on the panel, and **Web display** in the browser.
- Briefly unplug the network cable or turn off the Wi-Fi: The display software keeps showing what it has already loaded. With the app, the next start without a network shows a waiting page that keeps trying by itself.

## If something goes wrong

| Symptom | Meaning | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| After power-on, the TV shows a channel or the home screen | Autorun Last App is off, or the model restores only the last source with it | check the settings above, open Szenera Display with the remote control, in the browser use the bookmark of the display software |
| The TV turns off after a few hours | the automatic power off without operation | turn it off in the power or Eco settings |
| The app shows **No internet connection** | The TV has no network | Check the TV’s network. The app keeps trying by itself and reconnects as soon as the network is back |
| The app shows **The display does not respond** | The TV has a network but does not reach the display software | wait a few minutes. If it persists, ask support |
| The app shows **This TV is too old for Szenera Display** | Tizen 5.0 or older, or the app did not recognize the TV’s version | On a TV from 2020 or later, set a **Display version** in the settings of the app (Back › **Settings**). Otherwise, the device cannot run the display software, see [Which address applies](#which-address-applies) |
| The page stays blank although the TV has a network | The browser engine does not support the chosen version of the display software | in the app, choose **Older devices** in the settings (Menu or Back › **Settings**), in the browser open the TV address |
| A new pairing code appears after every start | The TV has cleared the storage of the display software | report it to support, with the model and Tizen version of the TV |
| The panel reports an error when installing the app | The app for Samsung panels has not yet been verified on any panel, and a panel installs only an app with a matching signature | note the model, Tizen version, and the message and report them to support. Until then, use the [URL Launcher](#on-the-panel-with-url-launcher) without the app |
| After power-on, the panel shows an input instead of the app | The power-on source is not set to the URL Launcher or the Custom App | change the power-on source, turn the panel off and on again |
