# Unpack and connect

At the end, the player is connected to the TV or monitor, has power and network, and shows a six-digit pairing code. Typing that code in on a computer is the only step that needs a portal account.

> **Type:** device
> **For:** anyone setting up the device on site, with no prior knowledge and no keyboard at the device
> **Prerequisite:** a player from the box and a TV or monitor with a free HDMI input. To pair it afterward, you need portal access with the Owner or Manager role.
> **Where in the portal:** at the TV or monitor on site · in the portal **Displays** › **Pair display** › step **Prepare**

## What you need in front of you

- the **player** in its aluminum case, with the memory card inserted and the system preinstalled
- the **power supply** that comes with it, with a USB-C plug
- the **HDMI cable** that comes with it, Micro-HDMI to HDMI
- a **TV or monitor** with a free HDMI input
- a **network cable**, or the name and password of your Wi-Fi and a **smartphone** for the setup
- a **computer with portal access** for the pairing afterward

You never need a keyboard, a mouse, or a remote control. Nothing is operated at the device itself.

## Where to place the player

- Only in dry indoor rooms. Not outdoors, not in damp rooms.
- Behind the TV or monitor or on the wall, where customers and visitors cannot easily reach it.
- Leave air around it. Do not cover it, and do not put it in enclosed boxes without ventilation.
- Route cables so nobody can trip over them.
- Keep the power outlet within reach: The power supply is the means of disconnecting the device from the mains.

> **Caution:** The case gets warm during operation. That is normal, because it is the heat sink.

> **Caution:** Whoever holds the player also holds its memory card. Choose a spot out of visitors’ reach.

> **Caution:** Operate the player only with the power supply that comes with it. A power supply that is too weak or a cable that is too long causes undervoltage: The picture stutters, and the portal reports the incident **Power supply throttling**, with no other error.

Also, do not open the case, because there is nothing inside to service. Keep the ambient temperature between 0 and 40 °C, away from radiators and out of direct sunlight. Keep liquids away from the device and the power supply. Do not keep using a damaged power supply or cable. The device is intended for commercial use and not for children.

## Steps

1. **Connect the display.** Plug the HDMI cable into the Micro-HDMI socket **HDMI 0** right next to the power connector and into the TV or monitor. Turn the TV or monitor on and select the matching HDMI input there.
2. **Prepare the network.** If you have a network cable, plug it in now. Otherwise, set up the Wi-Fi in step 4.
3. **Power it on.** Connect the power supply to the USB-C port, then to the outlet. The player has no switch. It starts by itself and registers once while doing so. This takes about a minute.
4. **Set up the Wi-Fi if there is no cable.** Without a reachable network, the display shows a **setup card** with a QR code. [Connect to the network](/docs/devices/connect-network) explains how to continue.
5. **Pair.** The display shows the six-digit **pairing code** and the portal address. Sign in there on a computer, open **Displays**, choose **Pair display**, and type in the code.

> **Caution:** Do not turn off the TV or monitor before the pairing is confirmed in the portal. You need the code there.

## With the Player Pro

The Player Pro drives two TVs or monitors: the first on **HDMI 0**, the second on the neighboring Micro-HDMI socket. Each of them becomes its own display in the portal with its own program. Which one is connected to which socket appears later in the device record, in the **Connector** row. There is no second code. [The pairing screen](/docs/devices/pairing-screen) explains why.

## Check the result

At the top of the display, there is a green dot with the word **Connected**, and in the middle the **Pairing code** card with six characters. Then the cable, power, and network are fine. If the display shows the **setup card** with a QR code instead, everything is connected, but the device does not have a network yet.

## During normal operation

You manage content and schedules in the portal, and nothing is operated at the device. The player fetches updates itself. If the internet goes down, it keeps showing the stored content. To switch it off, unplug the power supply, at any time and without data loss. Clean it only when it is unplugged, with a dry cloth.

## If something goes wrong

| Symptom | Meaning | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| The display stays black | The cable, input, or power is not right yet, or the startup is still running. | Plug the cable into **HDMI 0**, select the right input on the TV or monitor, check the power supply, and wait a minute. |
| Six empty tiles instead of characters | The code is not there yet. Usually the device has no internet. | Check the network cable or Wi-Fi. Once the network is up, the next cycle fills the tiles. |
| The setup card keeps coming back | The Wi-Fi password was wrong. | Scan the QR code again and re-enter the credentials, see [Connect to the network](/docs/devices/connect-network). |
| The picture stutters with no visible error | The device has undervoltage. The portal reports **Power supply throttling**. | Use the power supply that comes with it, and do not put an extension cable in between. |
| The portal does not accept the code | Mistyped, expired, or already paired. | Use the code that is displayed right now. [Pair a display](/docs/displays/pair-display) explains the messages. |
