# Add a second display to the same device

By the end of this page, a device drives two outputs: two independent displays, each with its own name, its own program, and its own orientation. You do not need a pairing code for this — the machine already belongs to you.

> **Type:** guide
> **For:** anyone who connects a second panel to a running device, for example in the shop window and above the counter
> **Prerequisite:** Owner or Manager role. Your contract covers several displays per device (Pro and up). The cable is plugged in, and the device has reported the occupied connector.
> **Where in the portal:** **Displays** › **Pair display** › **Another screen on an existing device** — or device record › **Displays on this device** card

## What the second panel shows beforehand

As soon as the cable is plugged in, the device opens a view on the second panel with the heading **No display is set up for this screen yet**. It names **Number**, **Resolution**, and **Belongs to**, and states explicitly: “No pairing code needed: this device has already been claimed. The panel turns on by itself once a display has been added for it in the portal.”

A second panel on a paired device therefore never shows a code. Do not wait for one — add the display in the portal.

## Steps

### Via the “Add a display” dialog

1. Open **Displays** and click **Pair display**.
2. In the **Connection** step, choose the third option: **Another screen on an existing device**.
3. The **Device and connector** step asks: **Which device is the screen attached to?** Only devices that currently report an occupied connector without a display are offered. Below each device, **In use: …** and **Free: …** are shown.
4. Choose the device. Under **Name (optional)**, enter what the display should be called. Without a name, it is named after the device’s serial number with its number, for example “Display 7AA9 · 2”. The dialog tells you the cost beforehand: **This books one more display.**
5. Click **Create display**.

### Via the device record

1. Open a display of this device and switch to the **Device** tab, or go to the device record through **Devices**.
2. The **Displays on this device** card lists all outputs of the machine with status dot, name, and connector as **Display 1**, **Display 2**, and so on. A click jumps to the sibling display. If the machine reports a free connector, the card also says: “One more connector reports a monitor with no display attached yet.”
3. Click **Add display** and enter a name.

## Check the result

- The new display is in the fleet like any other and waits for a program. The second panel shows the placeholder or your content instead of the notice.
- The **Displays on this device** card now has two rows, **Display 1** and **Display 2**.
- Both displays are independent: own name, own program, own orientation — and each takes a booked seat of its own.
- Right after a pairing, the portal offers the same step on its own: **Another screen is attached to this device** with **Add another display** and the note “Every additional display takes another booked slot.”

## If something goes wrong

| Symptom | Meaning | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| **No device is reporting a free connector right now.** | No machine reports an occupied connector without a display. | “Plug in the cable — the report follows within a few minutes.” Then reopen the dialog. |
| **The device reports no monitor on this connector.** | As far as the device can tell, nothing is connected to the chosen connector. | Check the cable and the input selection on the panel. What the device does not see, the portal cannot offer. |
| **A display is already attached to this connector.** | An entry already exists for this output. | Jump to the existing display through the **Displays on this device** card. |
| **Multiple displays per device are not enabled for your contract.** | The capability is missing, and **Add display** does not appear. | Book it as an add-on — “the route via another device stays open to you regardless”. |
| The button is missing although the cable is plugged in | A device only reports its connectors once it is running. The report takes up to a few minutes. | Wait a moment and reload the page. If it stays that way, check the cable and the panel. |
