Before you start
- For
- anyone who mounts a panel in portrait orientation, wants it dark in the evening, or sees bars in the picture
- Prerequisite
- Owner or Manager role. The display has reported its capabilities, and switching depends on the contract.
- Where in the portal
- Displays › display › Screen tab › Picture settings card
When you are done, the picture is the right way up, fills the panel as you want, and is as bright as needed — and you can switch the panel dark remotely.
What this display can do
The device itself asks the panel over the cable what it offers. The What this display can do card lists Hardware video, Screenshot, Screen on/off, Brightness control, System updates, and Multiple outputs. If something is missing, the reason appears below it: This screen does not expose it, Available with the Display extension, Only on a device running SzeneraOS, or Not available on this platform. The last reason appears on a panel whose display software runs in a host app, such as the Fire TV app. There is no extension and no SzeneraOS to add later, and a newer version of the app reports any additional capabilities itself. On a capability that the app provides, its name appears with the version, for example Fire TV app 1.0.0. A fresh display answers only after it has started. Until then, it says “This display has not reported its capabilities yet.” After replugging, the device asks again.
Steps
Orientation and fit
- In the Screen tab, open the Picture settings card. What you set there applies “to this one panel only, goes to the device right away, and survives a restart.”
- Under Screen orientation, choose the mounting position: Landscape, Portrait, Landscape, upside down, or Portrait, the other way. When you switch, the display stays black for a few seconds.
- Under When the picture does not fit exactly, decide: Show everything leaves black bars in place and is right where nothing may be missing, such as prices and opening hours. Fill the screen scales up to the edge, cuts something off, and is right for photos and videos.

1 Panel orientation · 2 When the picture does not fit exactly · 3 Brightness slider
Brightness
- Drag the Brightness slider. It is saved when you release it.
- Read the label next to it: It tells you what the slider does in practice.
| Label | What the slider does |
|---|---|
| real brightness | The slider adjusts the panel itself, like the button on its remote control: The panel gets darker and saves power. After a phase without power, the device restores the value. |
| software dimming | The panel cannot be adjusted from outside. The display software lays a veil over the picture. The panel keeps shining — no power is saved. 100% means: no veil. |
Switch the panel on and off
- In the Turn the screen on and off card, read the status. The portal offers the matching action.
- Click Turn off or Turn on. Turning off asks for confirmation with Turn the screen off?
| What it says | What you can click |
|---|---|
| The screen is switched on | only Turn off |
| The screen is switched off | only Turn on |
| The screen does not answer | both directions |
| The state is not known yet | both directions |
| The screen does not confirm its state | both directions, with an explanation |
Two buttons are shown because some panels report themselves as switched on although they are not. The card does not guess — you decide by what you can see on site.
What is switched is the panel, not the device: The device keeps running and reporting, and only the display stays black. An off-air period keeps the panel on and shows a blank picture as scheduled.
Check the result
- The messages: Orientation saved, Picture fit saved, Brightness saved.
- After a switch command, it says command on its way. The status arrives “with the next check-in — that takes up to half a minute.”
- The Screen card names Reported resolution, Format, Orientation, Permitted resolution, Device, Connector, and Serial number. capped by contract means: Your package limits the resolution, with 4K from Pro on.
If something goes wrong
| Symptom | Meaning | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| The Turn the screen on and off card is missing | Your contract does not cover switching. | Book it as an add-on. Commands already issued run to completion. |
| The screen does not answer | No power, control switched off in the menu, or the cable does not carry the control line. | Switch the control on in the menu, try another cable. |
| The slider works, but it does not get darker | software dimming applies. | Switch the panel off or use a panel that can be dimmed. |
| On a web display, the switch and the slider are missing | “No control over the panel”: A browser is behind it. | Switching happens on site. |
| The picture is sideways or upside down | The orientation does not match the mounting. | Choose the right position under Screen orientation. |
